As the Barvinok Choir reaches out to the Vancouver choral community at large, it acts as an ambassador of Ukrainian cultural traditions, particularly Ukrainian choral music, as well as continuing to preserve and celebrate these traditions within its own community, following in the footsteps established by groups like the Milestones, the Whiskey Jacks, the Lyonok Trio, the Senior’s Choir, and the AUUC Jubilee Choir within the Vancouver AUUC.

OLESIA SHEWCHUK / CONDUCTOR

Olesia conducts and arranges music for the Barvinok Folk Choir. She is a professional actor, singer & filmmaker with a background in dance, music composition and piano. She has sung as a vocal soloist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The New Westminster Symphony Orchestra, City Opera Vancouver, Vivaldi Chamber Choir & Orchestra and The Vancouver Folk Orchestra. Olesia has studied with over a hundred instructors in speech, singing and movement techniques, and has unique perspective interweaving disciplines in order to unleash a versatile voice within. Olesia is fluent in Ukrainian and is passionate about Ukrainian music.

Олеся диригує та аранжує народний хор «Барвінок». Вона є професійною акторкою, співачкою та кінорежисером із досвідом танцю, музики та фортепіано. Вона співала як вокальна солістка з Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, The New Westminster Symphony Orchestra, City Opera Vancouver, Vivaldi Chamber Choir & Orchestra та The Vancouver Folk Orchestra. Олеся навчалася з більш ніж сотнею інструкторів техніці мовлення, співу та рухів, а також володіє унікальними перспективними переплетеннями дисциплін, щоб розкрити різнобічний голос людей. Олеся вільно володіє українською мовою та захоплюється українською музикою.
