Vancouver Folk Orchestra

 

 

One of the oldest running groups, the Vancouver Folk Orchestra is key to the musical culture sustained at the Ukrainian Hall. They play for the Dovbush School of Ukrainian Dance and at times for the Dovbush Dancers. 

 

Rehearsals take place on Tuesdays from 4 PM to 6 PM at the Ukrainian Hall at 805 East Pender St, or over Zoom.

Our Conductor

Pavel Rhyzlovsky

Pavel Rhyzlovsky is a musician based in Vancouver, B.C. Born and raised in Poland, Pavel was no stranger to music, growing up in a family of musicians. As a young adult, Pavel completed a masters degree in music education as well as a diploma in piano performance. Throughout his life, Pavel has become a music teacher, church organist, and a choir and orchestra conductor. Pavel has worked across Europe teaching instrumental theory, music theory, history, and how to conduct. Additionally, he arranges and composes his own music.

Pavels instrumental talents include being trained in the piano, clarinet, saxophone, accordion, and recorder.

 

In 2001, Pavel settled in B.C. Pavel joined the Vancouver Folk Orchestra as an accordionist. Eventually, he would become to be its music director.
